Summary Responses of lentil in unsterile soils at low, medium and high levels of plant available soil P toGlomus fasciculatum inoculation were evaluated. It was observed that growth, dry matter accumulation, nodulation, and nitrogen fixation were considerably improved in VAM inoculated plants over uninoculated control at low and medium levels of plant available soil P.  相似文献

Summary The VA-infected wheat varieties showed an increase of total (Lozano var.) and reducing (Lozano and Pane vars.) sugars in their root extracts. However, no clear relationship between sugar concentration in the root and VA mycorrhizal infection level could be established. In addition, the VA mycorrhizal hosts sorghum, alfalfa, sunflower and maize, and non-host radish and cabbage plants were tested for sugar content in their root extracts after fifteen days of growth. Sugars present in the root extracts of these plants did not seem to be a decisive factor in plant susceptibility to VA infection.  相似文献

Summary The response of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill) to inoculation with the vasicular arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungusGlomus fasiculatum andAzotobacter vinelandii singly and in combination was tested in the field. It was found thatG. fasiculatum as well asA. vinelandii significantly increased leaf area, shoot dry weight, nitrogen content phosphorus content and yield in respect to uninoculated control. While, VAM fungal treatment alone could bring about substantial increase in growth, nitrogen content, phosphorus content and yield, its combination withA. vinelandii produced additional effects on leaf area, shoot dry weight, phosphorus content and yield. The growth response ofCalopogonium caeruleum, a leguminous covercrop in plantation agriculture, to inoculation with two vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi was investigated in five phosphorus (P)-deficient soils supplied with various levels of rock phosphate. Significant shoot yield increases over the uninoculated controls were obtained in most sterilised or unsterilised soils at all applied P levels, although the inoculant VAM fungi differed in their effectiveness in the soils used. Responses in mycorrhizal root infections, P and nitrogen (N) concentrations in tops and plant nodulation varied. The results are discussed in relation to the edaphic environment of the mycorrhizal association.  相似文献

Relations between cytokinin concentrations and effects of P and vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) infection were investigated in Plantago major L. ssp. pleiosperma Pilger. Both mycorrhizal infection by Glomus fasciculatum (Thaxt. sensu Gerdemann) Gerdemann and Trappe and P addition increased the shoot to root ratio, specific leaf area (SLA), and P concentrations of shoot and roots, and decreased the percentage of dry matter in the shoot during the experiment. In general, P concentration in the shoot and roots of each treatment correlated positively with the shoot to root ratio and specific leaf area, and negatively with the percentage of dry matter in the shoot. Cytokinin concentrations in the tissue of shoots and roots were determined using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Concentrations of zeatin and zeatin-ribosides in the free base and nucleotide fractions had increased more after P addition than in the case of mycorrhizal infection in both shoot and roots, whereas the P concentrations had increased less. It is suggested that zeatin and zeatin-ribosides are not the primary growth-substances involved in mediating VAM effects.  相似文献

Biotic factors in the rhizosphere and their effect on the growth ofPlantago major L. ssp.pleiosperma Pilger (Great plantain) were studied. In a pot experiment the effect on shoot growth of the addition of 2.5% rhizosphere soil at four levels of phosphate was highly dependent on the availability of phosphate: a promoting effect at low phosphate levels was observed while a reducing effect occurred at higher phosphate levels. As the roots were infected with vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi in the treatment with rhizosphere soil, two other experiments were set up to separate effects of the indigenous VAM fungi from effects of the total rhizosphere population. The uptake of phosphate and shoot growth was not decreased at higher phosphate availability when VAM inoculum was added alone or in combination with rhizosphere soil. The growth reducing effect of the rhizosphere soil could therefore not be ascribed only to mycorrhizal infection. The results suggest that biotic factors in the rhizosphere soil affect the phosphate uptake ofPlantago major ssp.pleiosperma. This may, under conditions of phosphate limitation, lead to an increase of phosphate stress and, subsequently, a growth reduction. Futhermore, it is concluded that VAM fungi, as part of the rhizosphere population, may compensate this phosphate stress by enhancing the phosphate uptake.Grassland Species Research Group Publication No. 148.  相似文献

Soybean [ Glycine max (L.) Merr.] plants were grown in pot cultures and inoculated with the vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungus Glomus mosseae (Nicol. & Gerd.) Gerd. and Trappe or provided with P fertilizer (non-VAM plants). After an initial growth period (21 days), plants were exposed to cycles of severe, moderate or no drought stress over a subsequent 28-day period by rewatering at soil water potentials of -1.0, -0.3 or -0.05 MPa. Dry weights of VAM plants were greater at severe stress and smaller at no stress than those of non-VAM plants. Phosphorus fertilization was applied to produce VAM and non-VAM plants of the same size at moderate stress. Root and leaf P concentrations were higher in non-VAM plants at all stress levels. All plants were stressed to permanent wilting prior to harvest. VAM plants had lower soil moisture content at harvest than non-VAM plants. Colonization of roots by G. mosseae did not vary with stress, but the biomass and length of the extraradical mycelium was greater in severely stressed than in non-stressed plants. Growth enhancement of VAM plants relative to P-fertilized non-VAM plants under severe stress was attributed to increased uptake of water as well as to more efficient P uptake. The ability of VAM plants to deplete soil water to a greater extent than non-VAM plants suggests lower permanent wilting potentials for the former.  相似文献

The level of vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) infection in the roots of Leucaena grown in a sand-soil mixture in the greenhouse increased rapidly with time and reached a peak value of 84% at 30 days from planting. The pattern of immobile nutrient uptake and accumulation closely paralleled that of the development of infection, particularly during the first 10–30 days after planting. Significant changes in dry matter yield were also observed only after a significant portion of the root length was colonized byGlomus aggregatum. The development of VAM infection was not accompanied by growth depression at any of the sampling periods. However, VAM roots had very high levels of Cu which was not translocated to shoots. It is hypothesized that such a diversion of Cu by the endophyte from the host could cause growth depression under conditions where the soil volume is supplied with sub-optimal levels of Cu. Seven different hosts,Panicum maximum, Chrysopogon fulvis, Themeda triandra, Chloris gayana, Brachiaria brizantha, Paspalum scrobiculatum andEleusine coracana were screened in order to select a better host for mass multiplication ofGlomus fasciculatum inoculum. Of these,Chloris gayana (Rhodes grass) was found to be the best host on the basis of root colonization and spore production and of the infective propagules of the potball.  相似文献
